DNA: What type of test is ancestry?

DNA Ancestry DNA is an autosomal home DNA Kit.

We like to say, just SPIT and SEND.  But to use it as a genealogical tool, you must test the right person.  Follow this rule of thumb:

Two things to consider if you wish to use DNA as a genealogical tool.

1) autosomal tests are reliable for about 5 generations, so you will want to test the eldest family members.

2) if on a budget consider both the health of family members and actuary tables
